JV GIRLS BASKETBALL
COACH TONY MCDONALD REPORTS: JV Lady Spartan Basketball Finish Season
Unbeaten 18-0
Our JV girls basketball team put the final touches on an incredible
undefeated season at Buford last Friday evening.
After starting the game down 12-0, and battling back, then to be down again
by 12 in the 3rd quarter, the team came from behind to win convincingly
49-40. This was a very exciting contest, back and forth, but the Spartans
relentless pressure finally prevailed.
The team was led by a fantastic game by Briana Jordan, leading us with 20
points, and wooing the crowd several times with some amazing moves to the
basket. Anjelica Wilcox, Chaney Means, Stephanie Pendleton, Hope Wooster,
and Heidi Tabor, all turned in great performances with tremendous effort.
Thanks to everyone for all the support and consideration given to our
program in a season that created many memories!Team Members include:

>WRESTLING
COACH JEFF HARSH REPORTS:
The Spartan Varsity Wrestling Team competed in the 4-AA Area Tournament this
weekend at Oglethorpe County HS and finished in fifth place out of fourteen
schools.
Coming home as champion of his weight class was senior co-captain Andrew
Deneen (189 lbs) defeating Wesleyan’s Kelby Smith 7-2. Coming in as
runner-up was freshman Locke Hoover (103 lbs) losing in overtime to Lovett’s
Matt Hines.
Bringing home third place medals were freshman Travis Elrod (112), and
juniors Mason Deal (119) and Ben Hixson (135). Drew Schoepf (HWT) finished
with a fifth place medal and will be an alternate to the state tournament
this coming weekend while the other five wrestlers will be in the tournament
itself at the Gwinnett Arena. Congratulate your Spartans on a wonderful
season and wish them well as they compete in the state tournament.
Also, last Tuesday the varsity wrestling team competed in their last dual
meet of the season at Dunwoody. The meet came down to the last couple
matches and the Spartans won one out of the last three to leave defeated
34-40.
Having wins for the Spartans were Locke Hoover (103), Travis Elrod (112),
Mason Deal (119), and Alex Davis (130). Travis and Alex had very exciting
matches last night. Travis Elrod wrestled against a former Spartan and
defeated him in overtime when he earned the first takedown. Alex Davis has
been sick for the last few days and was healthy enough last night to come
back in the third period and defeat his opponent by a score of 11-7.
Coach Jeff Harsh said after the meet, “Everyone wrestled real well tonight
and we look forward to our Area tournament this weekend down in Oglethorpe
County. We seem to be peaking as a team and I foresee several of our
wrestlers that will make it to State this year.” Congratulate your Spartan
wrestling team as they finish the season with a record of 8-15.
CSS to Televise GHSA Wrestling
Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) will televise action from the GHSA
Traditional Wrestling State Championship in a taped two-hour program to air
Thursday, Feb 16th at 9:00 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 17th at 12:30 p.m. The
2006 state tournament will be held on Feb. 9-11 at The Arena at Gwinnett
Center featuring the first time consolidation of all five classifications
competing at a single site. This is the eighth season that CSS has
broadcast GHSA wrestling, which first aired in 1999. The announce team of
Matt Stewart and Gordon Pritz will deliver the move-by-move commentary.

>SPRING SPORTS PREVIEW
BASEBALL: Spartans will play at Turner Field
The Spartans need the help of the entire GACS Family from Kindergarten to
High School to help Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA). Children's
Healthcare has long been a leader in pediatric medical healthcare. Their
doors have always been open to all members of the community. Now, it is OUR
TURN to help them.
CHOA, again for the third year, will be hosting the Spring Baseball Classic.
Money raised from these baseball games will benefit their Brain Tumor
Services department. The funds are being allocated to purchase an
intra-operative MRI machine, the purpose of which is to provide guidance
during neurosurgical procedures. This kind of surgical navigation systems
orients and guides the surgeon based on pre-operative and operative imaging.
Using the intra-operative MRI minimizes the invasive nature of surgery for
brain tumors, enhances the overall safety of brain procedures, and reduces
hospital costs (like length of stay).
We need the support of GACS families and GACS family-owned businesses.
Please plan to buy tickets for your family and employees to attend this
game. The Spartans play against Wesleyan at 4:00pm followed by the long
standing rivalry of Georgia vs. Georgia Tech.
Game Date: Wednesday, May 10, 2006.
First game: GAC Spartans vs. Wesleyan Wolves at 4:00pm.
Second game: UGA vs. Tech at 7:00pm.
Location: Turner Field.
Tickets are $10 each.
Seating is general admission.
