Science Olympiad
Monday, March 27, 2006
Our Science Olympiad team came away from the State Tournament this past weekend at Augusta State University taking 8th place in the state of GA! In addition, the team earned medals in four events with a first place for the second year in a row in “Compute This”. They earned a second place medal in “Wheeled Vehicle, and 4th place medals in both “Disease Detectives” and “Food Science”. This is a huge leap forward since our team’s inception only four years ago when they were amazed just to have earned an invitation to state. Our team competes against some of the top teams in the nation which happen to come from GA. Many of these schools have Science Olympiad as a class each day. Given our situation where all of the preparation is done outside of class time, these students should be commended for their sacrifices and dedication to be able to compete at this level. Team members include: 9th graders – Andrew Caudill and Anthony Lim; 8th graders – Nick Chizek, Gayoung Kim, John Levengood, Amberly Main, and Jay Mehta; 7th graders – Scott Box, Sunny Patel, Alexander Shakkour, and Bo Tullis; 6th graders – Adam Baker, Jacob Baker, Andriy Kyrychenko, and Abigail Mistretta, and 10th grade student coach, Margie Fisher. When you see any of these students, please congratulate them.
