SPARTAN BASEBALL AT TURNER FIELD THIS WEDNESDAY

Bill Burton reports:
Reminder that you only have a couple of days to purchase your tickets (GHSA
passes will not work for this charity game) for the Turner Field Classic
baseball game.  The game is at 4 pm against our friends at Wesleyan.
Please make checks out to CHOA, not to GAC. Tickets are being sold before
and after school in the Student-Family Center and throughout the day by
Steffanie Garner in my office.

The price of the tickets is tax deductible.  All tickets are general
admission and are good for the Georgia vs. Georgia Tech game, which follows
our game at 7 pm.  All tickets need to be purchased in advance.

Students going to the game will be dismissed early from school on Wednesday
at 2:15.

Ticket sales are really picking up so we are expecting a good crowd of
Spartan fans at the game.  Spartan fans are asked to wear RED to the game.
Please, no green!!

Students (K-12) are encouraged to wear Spartan Spirit attire PLUS baseball
caps on this Wednesday to promote the game.  The baseball players are
wearing their baseball jersies today and will be coming to chapels to make
annoucements.

How exciting for GAC to be selected to play in this special game and to
raise money for such a worthwhile cause--Children's Healthcare of Atlanta!!
We hope that you are planning to be at Turner Field on Wednesday afternoon.

STATE SEMIFINALS TOMORROW AT HOME: SPARTANS HAVE REMATCH WITH AQUINAS

Coach Jacquet reports:
Congratulations to the boy's varsity soccer team for defeating Holy
Innocents 4-0 in the state quarterfinal played on Friday. Chris Thomas led
the way with two goals; Sam Arthur scored one, and Roy Lee smashed one by
the surprised keeper! (His teammates were surprised as well!)

Next up for the Spartans will be defending state champ and #2-ranked Aquinas
High School in the state semifinal  This will be a huge game for the
Spartans with a spot in the title game at stake.  We have enjoyed the crowds
and would love to see you up on the hill Tuesday night at 7:00.

CHRIS THOMAS LEADS GAC BOYS TO STATE SEMIFINALS
Shane Mayfield, Staff Correspondent
May 6 Post

NORCROSS — The Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans got two goals from
freshman Chris Thomas Friday night in a 4-0 shutout over Holy Innocents' to
earn a spot in the semifinals of the Class AA/A soccer state playoffs.

The Spartans controlled the tempo throughout most of the game, keeping
constant pressure on the Golden Bears.

Holy Innocents' had a great scoring chance late in the first half when a
free kick from just outside the penalty box was deflected high, but GAC
goalkeeper Matt Wolfe was equal to the task, knocking it just over the
crossbar.

Moments later in the 32nd minute, Roy Lee scored on a loose ball, following
a corner kick that rolled across the goal mouth and Lee buried it to give
the Spartans a 1-0 lead. One minute later, Lee just missed scoring another
goal as he put one just over the crossbar.

GAC carried the one-goal lead into the second half but was able to strike
quick as Thomas scored his first goal from 18 yards out with a blast off of
his left foot that got under the Golden Bears' keeper just 14 seconds into
the half.

The Spartans were able to overmatch the Golden Bears' speed with very solid
physical play and did not allow them to keep possession of the ball to get
breakaway chances.

"We knew what they were capable of doing, so for us to keep them out was
good for us," GAC head coach Thom Jacquet said.

"I thought we weren't very sharp at first but the key was to keep them from
getting the early goal," added Jacquet.

Thomas iced the game in the 62nd minute with his second goal, scoring off an
excellent centering pass from Matt Carroll, to give the Spartans a
three-goal lead.

The GAC defense had to hold off a hard-charging comeback attempt late in the
game to keep the Golden Bears off of the scoreboard. The Spartan defense got
plenty of support behind them as Wolfe came up with a number of goal-saving
stops.

With just over one minute to play Sam Arthur gave the Spartans their final
margin of victory of 4-0.
GAC's next match will be May 9 when it will face...Aquinas...

GAC DOMINATES HOLY INNOCENTS
By Philip Jackson
May 6 AJC

Roy Lee could not have picked a better time to score his first goal of the
year. The Greater Atlanta Christian fullback broke a scoreless first-half
tie when he corralled a deflected ball off a corner kick and calmly put a
left-footed half-volley into the back of the net.

The Spartans (11-8-2) went on to score three more goals in the second half
as they defeated visiting Holy Innocents'

4-0 in the AA state quarterfinals Friday night.

"I thought the defender was going to step up, but he just let the ball go
through to me," Lee said. "I was wide open, and it felt good when I hit it."

GAC controlled possession and dictated flow from the opening whistle.

Midfielder Zach Johnson repeatedly fed balls on the right side to Nick Ramon
and Sam Arthur, but the Spartans were continually denied by Golden Bears
goalkeeper Will Decker.

Ramon and Arthur proved a stronger presence in the midfield as they
continually won 50-50 balls and displaced defenders to maintain possession.

The duo had a give-and-go deep in the right side that led to the corner kick
and Lee's goal at the 32nd minute in the first half.

"Watching some game film, I thought we might be stronger up front," GAC
coach Thom Jacquet said. "They had a lot of speed, but I thought our
strength would be able to counter that."

Holy Innocents' (12-6-2) best chance came when Farris Nolen rifled a free
kick that was deflected on goal. Spartans goalkeeper Matt Wolfe leapt and
his one-handed punch nudged the ball over the net.

GAC then struck with an improbable score in the opening seconds of the
second half. Freshman Chris Thomas turned and launched a shot from 35 yards
out. Decker was caught unprepared and couldn't catch up with the slicing
ball.

"That quick second goal really took the wind out of their sails," Jacquet
said. "They really couldn't muster enough effort after that,"

GAC kept the pressure up, and center fullback Richard Klemm won a number of
head balls as Holy Innocents' tried to counter by pushing long passes
through.

"It was a total team effort tonight," Lee said.

GAC GOES TO PKs TO BEAT ATLANTA INTERNATIONAL
By Scott Smith, Staff Correspondent
May 3 Post

NORCROSS — Minutes after Greater Atlanta Christian's match with Atlanta
International on Tuesday night, GAC head coach Thom Jacquet looked at his
players on the sideline and screamed "We're home! We're home!"

His excitement came from two things. One, his Spartans had just edged the
Eagles 2-1 on penalty kicks to send GAC (10-8-1) to the quarterfinals of the
Class AA/A state tournament.

The other was a message from athletic director Tim Vick, who had just
informed Jacquet that GAC would host in the third round as Holy Innocents'
had just upset Brookstone 2-1.

"That's the second best news I've heard all day," Jacquet said of Vick's
message.

The best news was posted on the scoreboard as GAC gutted out a terrific
performance from Atlanta International for the second-round win. But it took
over 90 minutes worth of soccer for that result to be determined as GAC
needed a 5-4 advantage on PKs to notch the 2-1 win.

GAC goalkeeper Matt Wolfe, who only recorded two saves in regulation, came
up with the save of the night on the first PK. Benjamin Leblois took the
first shot for Atlanta International and aimed low toward the left corner.

Wolfe read the shot and made a great deflection diving to his right,
directing the ball away from the post as he was fully outstretched.

"I just had a prayer that he would go low right, and he went low right and I
got it," Wolfe said. "I have been practicing PKs all week and I had some
idea of what to do."

The Eagles converted on their next four attempts, with Wolfe narrowly
missing two of them, but GAC was perfect on all five of its attempts.

Sam Arthur, who scored GAC's goal in regulation, rocketed home the first
one, followed by Chris Thomas' successful attempt. The next two were put
home by Nick Ramon and Zack Johnson and Eric Fletcher capped things off with
his kick in high on the right side.

Both teams battled to a scoreless first half with Atlanta International
(10-3) controlling much of the tempo. The Eagles had several good looks at
the goal but GAC's bending defense kept most shots away from the goal.

"They were very, very good," Jacquet said of Atlanta International." I
watched them play the other night and I did not see the team we played
tonight. We couldn't get a handle on the game in the first half and if we
had gotten down by more than one goal, we would have been in trouble."

The Eagles broke through in the opening seconds of the second half for a 1-0
lead when Leblois took a great cross pass from Rodrigo Ortiz and bounced it
off the top bar into the net. The goal came just 28 seconds into the second
half and seemed to wake GAC up.

The Spartans then put constant pressure on the Eagles' defense, keeping the
ball in their territory the majority of the half. That pressure finally paid
off in the 61st minute when Arthur won the battle for a loose ball in the
box, juked his way toward the left post and rolled home the tying goal.
Thomas almost won the game in regulation when he had a good look with just
seconds left to play but his left-footed shot sailed high of the bar. After
an uneventful overtime, the game went to PKs and Wolfe's save turned out to
be the difference.

"That save was fantastic," Jacquet said. "He dove, got it off the post and
that was the difference. I didn't think we'd hit five straight but we came
through"

ANNALISE PETERS EDGES TEAMMATE FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
By Dan Tomayko, Staff Writer
May 6 Post

ALBANY — The Greater Atlanta Christian girls pole vaulters couldn't ask for
much more in terms of the state tournament. The Spartans sent two vaulters
to Hugh Mills Stadium for the Class AA championships and both nearly walked
away with titles.

Senior Annalise Peters narrowly out-jumped sophomore Chanler Phelps for the
title, after both cleared 10 feet. Peters was named the champion by virtue
of the tie breaker.

"It's really exciting," Phelps said.

"We've talked about it a lot this season, going 1-2," Peters said. "We just
kept telling each other that we could and we did."

Peters came into the meet as the top seed, clearing 11 feet as her
qualifying height, while Phelps finished second last year.

"My whole second half of the season has been off," Peters said. "In all of
my warmups I didn't even get off the ground, so I had to start off at a low
level to get my confidence back up.

"It seemed to work out pretty well."

While Peters caps her career at GAC with a flourish, Phelps is given a
little motivation to make it to the next level after consecutive
second-place finishes in state.

"Yeah, it's definitely going to motivate me next year," the Spartan
sophomore said.
Peters, for one, is certain that she'll make it to that next level.

"She's going first next year," Peters said. "I feel confident that she's
going to win it all next year."

Greater Atlanta Christian had the best day of the Class AA Gwinnett schools,
placing four athletes on the medal stand with top-eight finishes. Along with
the 1-2 finish in the pole vault, the Spartans also had D'Nay Daniels finish
fourth in the long jump (17-3) and Hope Wooster finish in sixth in the
discus (97-7).

SIX IN A ROW: SPARTAN BOYS ARE REGION CHAMPIONS AGAIN

Coach Kinser reports:
Congratulations to the Boys track team for a good showing at the first day
of the Region meet [last Monday]. The following boys qualified for the State
meet.
Meko McCray—long jump, triple jump
Justin Schneider—1600 meters
Frank Bolling---1600 meters

SPARTANS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT REGION TITLE
By Dan Tomayko, Staff Writer
May 3 Post

BUFORD — The 1,600-meter relay of the boys Region 8-AA championship pretty
well summed up the meet — Greater Atlanta Christian going away.

The Spartans outdistanced Buford in the race by about 10 seconds and in the
overall standings with 171 to the second-place Wolves' 98.

"The (1,600 relay) was just a great way to end it with those four guys," GAC
head coach Brad Kinser said. "We're just really pleased with everyone and
looking forward to Jefferson.

"It was a good full team effort. We got off to a good start in the field
events and going 1-2 in the mile (on Monday), and then everyone kept it
going today."

"We're pretty happy about (winning the region), but it means more to the
team to have more top-two finishers going to state," junior hurdler Hunter
Treadaway said.

It didn't start out as well for the six-time defending region champions, as
their 400 relay "A" team dropped the baton in their qualifying heat and
didn't advance to the finals.

The Spartans' "B" team of sophomores Preston Crosby, Austin Crawford, Khiry
Battle and Blake Hoskin stepped up in Tuesday's first event to run to a
third-place finish.

That proved to be the only one of Tuesday's events that didn't have a
Spartan in first or second place.

"The team that really picked us up was the second (400 relay) team," Kinser
said. "The B team came out and ran a really solid race today and got
everybody pumped up."

The team responded with Treadaway qualifying with a first-place finish in
the 300 hurdles and second in the 110 hurdles, a 1-2 finish from Justin
Schneider and Frank Bolling in the 800, Ty Shelton in the 3,200 and from the
relay team of Schneider, Bolling, Michael Hughes and Quentin Plair in the
1,600 relay.

Meko McCray also took second in the 100 to earn his third ticket to the
state meet, while Hughes (200) and Plair (400) also qualified as individuals
with second-place finishes.

"I think right now as a team we're pretty solid going into state," Treadaway
said. "Right now we're not feeling the pressure so much, but once we get
there, the pressure will really be on to run our best."

"I think we're going to be pretty confident," Schneider said. "None of us
are going to have any jitters going into state."

The team has plenty of experience coming back from last year's team that
finished third overall, including the defending state champion 1,600 relay
team.

Shelton is also the defending state champion in cross country, though he has
been battling injuries throughout the track season.

"I wasn't sure how this was going to go," Shelton said. "It's a lot of trial
and error right now, but once you get out there in a race the competitive
juices start flowing."

Shelton appeared in mid-season form, as he overtook a pair of Wesleyan
runners at the end of the seventh of eight laps in the 3,200 and then
cruised for the win.

"I felt like once I took over (the lead) I wasn't going to give it up, so I
waited until there was a good distance to go," Shelton said.

In the 800, the two GAC runners built a comfortable lead by pushing one
another.

"I get him to the 400 and he gets me through the rest of the way," Bolling
said.

"We sort of felt like we almost had it in the bag between the two of us, so
we just wanted to run a really good time," Schneider said.

For the host Wolves, the best effort was from senior Matt Pridemore, who
qualified in four events — the 100, 200, 400 relay and 1,600 relay.

"A little bit more pressure this year," said Pridemore, who finished in
third in last year's state meet in the 200. "In all of the previous years
there's always been next year if you don't do well, but this year is it."

Also qualifying for state from Buford was Matt Pulliam in the 400.

Among the other Gwinnett County schools, Providence and Wesleyan finished in
a tie for fourth place, with Wesleyan's Brandon White taking second in the
3,200 to earn a trip to state.

SPARTANS HOLD OFF WOLVES TO TAKE CROWN
By Steve Shelnutt
May 3 AJC

Buford's Matt Pridemore notched wins in the 100 meters and 200 meters and
ran a leg of the Wolves' winning 4x100-meter relay, but it was not enough to
help the Wolves overcome Greater Atlanta Christian's large first-day lead as
the Spartans cruised to the Region 8-AA boys track title Tuesday at Buford.

GAC built a daunting 67-36 lead on Monday, and pulled away Tuesday, rolling
up 171 points, far outdistancing second-place Buford's 96 points.

"It was basically a race for second place," Buford coach David Snell said.
"They'll probably go against Charlton County for state, so if we lose to the
state champions at region, then it's not too bad."

Lumpkin County finished third with 60 points, while Providence Christian and
Wesleyan tied for fourth with 37 apiece. Rabun County (36), East Hall (22),
Banks County (18), Dawson County (17) and Union County (2) rounded out the
field.

The Spartans took first place in six events and finished second in eight
others to pull away.

Justin Schneider and Frank Bolling finished 1-2 for GAC in the 800 meters,
then reversed places in the 1600.

Ty Shelton ran a personal best in winning the 3200 meters for GAC in

10:09.0, and Hunter Treadaway won the 300 meter hurdles.

The Spartans' 4x400-meter relay team of Michael Hughes, Quentin Plair,
Bolling and Schneider won that event, finishing .55 seconds ahead of Buford.

Hughes also won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 14-6.

Meko McCray finished second in both the long jump and triple jump, while
Treadaway was second in the 110 hurdles and the 200 meters. Plair took
second in the 400 meters.

Pridemore set a meet record in the 200-meter preliminaries, winning his heat
in 21.89. In addition to Pridemore's individual wins, Buford also got
first-place finishes from Matt Pulliam (400 meters), Omar Hunter (shot put)
and the 4x100 relay team of Pridemore, Justin Black, Chandler Snell and
Sterling Bell.

The Wolves took second-place finishes in the high jump and the 4x400 relay.

The top two finishers in each event qualified for the state track meet,
which will be held in Jefferson on May 12-13.

GAC BOYS JUMP OUT TO EARLY LEAD AT REGION 8-AA MEET
By Will Hammock, Sports Editor
May 2 Post

BUFORD — A 1-2 finish in the 1,600-meter run capped a nice opening day for
Greater Atlanta Christian in the Region 8-AA boys track and field meet at
Buford High School.
The Spartans' effort in Monday's last final — Frank Bolling won the 1,600
and teammate Justin Schneider was the runner-up — gave them a 31-point lead
entering today's running finals. GAC leads with 67 points, Buford is second
with 36 and Providence is third with 29.
Bolling had a comfortable win in the 1,600 with a time of 4 minutes, 31.18
seconds while Schneider edged Wesleyan's Brandon White for second place at
4:36.55 to give the Spartans a bigger lead entering today.
"We did what we wanted to do in the mile," GAC coach Brad Kinser said. "It
was a good finish. We had some good performances in the field, too. It was a
good day. We qualified a lot of the people we wanted to (for state)."
Pole vaulter Michael Hughes was GAC's only other event champion on Monday,
winning the vault at 14 feet, 6 inches.
GAC also got a nice showing from Meko McCray, who qualified for state in two
events on Monday. McCray placed second in both the triple jump, with a leap
of 20 feet, 33/4 inches, and the triple jump (40-1).
The Spartans also had five other top finishes in the top six, led by Hunter
Treadaway's third-place finish in the pole vault and Schneider's third-place
showing in the high jump.
Providence also fared well on the opening day with region titles from Andrew
McQuaig and Daniel Averso. McQuaig won the discus with a toss of 138 feet, 1
inch and also qualified for state in shot put, with a runner-up finish at
47-11/2. Averso won the high jump at 6-4, just ahead of fellow state
qualifier Justin Roper of Buford (6-2).
Buford also had an event winner as Omar Hunter won the shot put at 47-5.

GAC 4, Walker 3
NORCROSS — Dillon Geraghty pitched a complete game as Greater Atlanta
Christian beat Walker 4-3 on Saturday. Geraghty allowed just one earned run
while striking out five for the Spartans (17-8).
John Wood went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Brock
Bennett went 1-for-3 with an RBI. [May 7 Post]

The following stories are reprinted from the team website at
http://eteamz.active.com/GACSpartanBaseball/

Spartans 4, Lumpkin County 5
Despite a dramatic, top of the 7th, 3 run go-ahead homer from Landon
Bennett, the Spartans let one slip away last night at Lumpkin County by a
5-4 margin. Taylor Wood took the loss in a complete game effort.

SPARTANS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT ON SENIOR DAY
Spartans clinched a playoff berth [Monday] with an 11-1 win over Dawson
County at Hester Field. The Spartan win, along with wins by Buford and
Providence, sets the final seedings for region 8-AA.
(1) Buford
(2) Wesleyan
(3) Providence
(4) GACS

Things started a little slowly for the Spartans as a first inning error
allowed the Tigers to take a 1-0 after 1 inning of play. The score would
remain there until the bottom of the 4th inning when a leadoff walk to
Landon Bennett, who subsequently stole second base, brought Lee Chapple to
the plate. Lee delivered an rbi single to score Bennett and knot the game at
1 apiece. It would not stay that way for long as senior left fielder John
Wood came to the plate and mashed a homer to left center field and give the
Spartans a 3-1 lead. In the fifth, a leadoff double by Dillon Geraghty,
followed by a nice sacrifice by Colton Chapple to move Dillon to third base,
payed off when Mark Edwards hit a nice gapper into left center to score
Dillon. Landon Bennett followed with the Spartans second 2 run homer of the
game and the Spartans had a nice 6-1 lead after 5. To round out the scoring
in the 6th, Dillon Geraghty knocked in John Wood and Brock Bennett with his
second double of the night. Dillon jogged home as freshman second baseman
Colton Chapple went yard for the first time this season to make the score
10-1. Lee Chapple would finish the day off, driving in Landon Bennett with
an rbi single to end the game.

Brent Burrows went the distance on the hill for GAC, tossing a very nice 2
hit, no earned run complete game.

Last, but certainly not least, the Spartans honored their seniors tonight
after the game. Thanks to all of these fine young men for what they have
done for and meant to the GACS community and baseball program. We are very
proud and honored to have been able to watch you compete and rest easy
knowing that all of you have bright futures ahead. [Photo below from team
website at http://eteamz.active.com/GACSpartanBaseball/]

GAC 11, Dawson Co. 1
NORCROSS — Landon Bennett, Colton Chapple and John Wood each had a homer and
two RBIs to lead Greater Atlanta Christian to an 11-1 rout over Dawson
County on Monday.
Brent Burrows was the winning pitcher for the Spartans (16-7, 11-5),
allowing three hits while striking out five batters.
Mark Edwards, Lee Chapple and Dillon Geraghty each had two hits apiece for
GAC, which clinched a state-playoff berth for the eighth consecutive year
with the win. [May 2 Post]

SPARTANS & LADY SPARTANS PLAY AT STATE TOURNAMENT TODAY IN VIDALIA

TEEING IT UP AT STATE FINALS
By David Purdum
May 8 AJC

Nine Gwinnett golf teams tee off today at four courses in pursuit of high
school state championships. The AAAAA tournaments are on Jekyll Island, the
boys at Pine Lakes Golf Course and the girls at Indian Mounds Golf Course.
Class AA teams play in Vidalia, the boys at Rocky Creek Golf Club and the
girls at Vidalia Country Club.

Staff writer David Purdum breaks down the Class Gwinnett entries' prospects:

AA BOYS
Greater Atlanta Christian
Lineup: Coach Gary Richey; players Blake Joiner, Pavle Potparic, Brad
Bartlett, Jonathon Hull, Patrick Howard, C.J. Williams
Mad Bomber: Joiner and Howard have battled all season for the Spartans'
long-drive crown.
Greens Master: Potparic has nerves of steel on the green.
Up-and-down: Joiner loves to work on his short game. It has paid off this
year.
Outlook: The Spartans' three seniors — Joiner, Potparic and Hull — need to
break 80 for GAC to have a chance.

Wesleyan
Lineup: Coach Russ Custer; players Ryan Anderson, Russell Lovelady, Clay
Rowland, Pat Steelman, Austin Day, Trent Parks
Mad Bomber: A smooth swinger, Anderson averages 280 off the tee.
Greens Master: A tireless worker, Lovelady has shown great focus and touch
on the greens.
Up-and-down: Rowland has a variety of shots around the green.
Outlook: The Wolves will need Anderson and Lovelady to go low.

AA GIRLS
Greater Atlanta Christian
Lineup: Coach Gary Richey; players Katie Tufts, Rebekah Osteen, Lauren
Rogers, Lisa Licata
Mad Bomber: It's tough to get it beyond Tufts off the tee.
Greens Master: Tufts is tough on the greens as well.
Up-and-down: It's the triple crown for Tufts, the Spartans' top overall
player.
Outlook: Osteen will need to stay in the 90s for the Region 8 champions to
compete.

Coach Steve Tufts reports:
SPARTAN GOLF TEAMS PERFORM WELL AT REGION 8-AA TOURNAMENT

The GACS golf teams performed in superb fashion at the Region 8-AA
tournament held April 24 at Gold Creek Golf Club in Dawsonville. Both teams
qualified for the state tournament to be held in Vidalia on May 8. It was a
long and windy day for both teams who finished an exciting playoff match in
near darkness.

The Lady Spartans won the Girls Region Tournament with a score of 183
defeating runner up and host Dawson County HS by 5 strokes.

The Spartans were led by Katie Tufts who shot an 83 to capture 2nd place
individually falling barely short on the last hole to medalist Kasey
Holbrook from Dawson County HS. The two played hard throughout the day with
Katie Tufts trailing by as many as 6 strokes early on the back nine.
However, birdies on the par 3, 13th and the par 5, 17th hole sparked a
comeback that sent them to the 18th tee tied. Local knowledge prevailed as
Holbrook played a smart tee shot avoiding the lake in front of the 18th
green and eventually making par to defeat Tufts.

Rebekah Osteen played well finishing 5th individually with a score of 100.
Lauren Rogers
and Lisa Licata also played well for the Spartans.

The boys match was equally exciting with the Spartans finishing regulation
play tied for 2nd place with Rabun County HS behind Champion Weslyan HS.
Blake Joiner led the Spartans in regulation play with a score of 80,
followed by Jonathan Hull at 81 and Brad Barlett at 82. Since the top two
teams advance to the state tournament, a playoff was required.

With darkness looming, the two teams were sent back to the course for a
sudden death shootout. The format for the playoff is that each team sends
out all 6 of their players in foursomes (1's and 2's first, 3's and 4's
next, 5's and 6's last) and they play one hole at a time counting the best 4
of the 6 scores on each hole until one team wins the hole. If a tie occurs
after the first hole, they proceed to the next hole and so on.

The Spartans got off to a great start with Pavle Potparic making birdie in
the first group and Blake Joiner adding a par. In the second group, Brad
Bartlett sank a long birdie putt from the fringe and Patrick Howard added
yet another kick-in birdie in the third group to give the Spartans an
amazing 13-20 victory in the playoff advancing them to the state tournament.
